Sign the petition: Make Minneapolis a city of resistance!
We need to stand united against Trump’s attacks on immigrants, refugees and Muslims. He's gearing up the deportation machine, and directing federal agencies to profile our neighbors. Now the billionaire in chief is threatening “sanctuary cities” like Minneapolis, which refuse to share their data and service interactions to deport immigrants. I'm calling on city council and the mayor as well as all candidates running for office this year: Take a stand! Use all powers in City Hall to block Trump's racism and turn Minneapolis into a beacon of resistance. Sign the petition!
Make Minneapolis a City of Resistance!
Immigrants are welcome here! Full voting rights at the city and county level for all who are non-citizens and call Minneapolis home.
Stop deportations! Minneapolis police should not feed Trump’s deportation machine. The current “separation agreement” that directs Minneapolis Police not to ask about immigration status is more about policing than protecting immigrants. Anyone who is suspected of a crime that ends up in Hennepin County Jail still risks being deported. MPD should avoid arrests for minor crimes, instead referring people directly to social programs, mental health services or shelters.
End racist police tactics. End policing tactics like “stop and frisk”, which amount to profiling people of color and immigrants. Sever ties with the the FBI’s CVE program, which targets the Muslim community, and ensure Minneapolis does not cooperate with “fusion centers” designed to hand information over to Trump’s surveillance state. Implement a democratically elected oversight board over the police with full powers, including hiring and firing officers, budgets, and department priorities.
Make Minneapolis affordable to all! Tax big developers and corporations and lower subsidies to US Bank Stadium and the Target Center to cover Trump’s funding cuts. Expand funding for social programs, high quality city owned affordable housing and union jobs. Pass a $15/hour minimum wage, with no tip-penalty, which disproportionately affects working class women.
I pledge to take a stand with Minneapolis against Trump’s billionaire-backed agenda.
I want to see the same from City Hall!
