City Hall: Don’t fund DAPL. Divest from Wells Fargo!

image_(4).png

Seattle City Council just voted to divest $3 billion from Dakota Access Pipeline funder Wells Fargo. I fully support a proposal authored by Cm Alondra Cano and Cm Cam Gordon in December directing city staff to explore banking alternatives for the city by July.

But with the looming threat of increased state repression, and Trump’s executive order to resume construction, Minneapolis should take urgent steps in solidarity with the Water Protectors on the ground at Standing Rock.

At a minimum, City Council should pass an ordinance directing the City of Minneapolis to avoid future financial contracts with Wells Fargo and select an alternative banking institution that does not invest in DAPL or other fossil fuel projects.

Let’s follow Seattle’s lead in Minneapolis to #DefundDapl and make our city a center of resistance to Trump’s billionaire-backed agenda!

We need to put pressure on ALL Investors in the pipeline, Wells Fargo being one of them. This is wrong because it is pollutting Native lands, dramatically affecting their lives and in the long wrong all of us.

Alice Gillie Water is life. Fracking and the pipelines that connect them enrich a small, wealthy few. I support health and welfare for the many, including the people at Standing Rock.

I denounce and condemn DAPL. The impingement of indigenous rights, the egregious disregard for the environment, and the misallocation of public resources for violent and abusive repression all warrant opposition and rejection by every means.
